ESD.02 ESSENTIALS OF ENGINEERING

(Note: This is both a team and individual assignment with the pieces of each noted. The team assignment is to be done as a group with one submission. The individual assignment must be done by each person and submitted by each person.)

TEAM ASSIGNMENT: The term project is very broad in its overall definition as provided by the report of the Task Force. Give thought and provide your team's initial thoughts to the following questions in terns of the discussion in class on the processes of engineering:

  • What are the bounds of the project
  • Where will you start?
  • Where will you end?
  • What are the needs on follow-through and how will you need to manifest that?

    EXPECTED LENGTH: 1-2 pages (typed)


    INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT: Given your team's intial thoughts and reactions to the questions above as they pertain to the term project, how does this define what you are doing as an engineer and thus what qualities you need? Revisit what you wrote in Assignment #2 as to what you perceive the "scope of engineering" to be and how these are manifested in what will need to be done and addressed in the ESD.02 Project. Check the emerging consensus we are capturing on the subject website and indicate your current perceptions to these two issues. Continue your exercise of self discovery where you indicated the qualities that we will need to help you develop during this term so that you can properly work on this project and indicate your current thoughts in this regard.
